What to bring

Many travellers wonder what to bring along with them when visiting Tasmania. Our tips and tricks for packing will help you to minimise your luggage and enjoy a comfortable travel experience in your Cruisin’ motorhome or campervan.

Cruisin’ Recommends;

General Items

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of a holiday and forget to pack the essentials. Make sure you have the following items packed before rushing to the airport to catch your plane – you won’t get far without some of these!

  • Passport
  • Plane confirmation ticket
  • Electrical adapter and chargers
  • Driver’s Licence and/or International Drivers Permit
  • Phone
  • A good book
  • Camera
  • Address book to send relatives and friends post cards

Solid Walking Boots

Around 40% of Tasmania is protected in either national parks or state reserves making it a magnificent destination for bush walking. Bring along a solid pair of walking boots and you will be ready to explore.

Waterproof Jacket & All Weather Clothing

Tasmania can often be subject to rapidly changing weather conditions and it is said that sometimes the state experiences all four seasons in one day. Come prepared with waterproof attire and layered clothing including thermals and jumpers to peel off on moderate days. The sun is strong in Tasmania and it is easy to get hot quickly at any time of year, especially if you are bush walking. Other clothing items to consider bringing include;

  • Warm jacket
  • Light jacket
  • T-shirts
  • Nightwear
  • Thick socks
  • Beanie
  • Light durable footwear
  • Casual evening wear
  • A formal evening wear outfit
  • Shorts
  • Sandals

Sun Protection

Tassie has one of the highest UV levels in the country and the fierce rays of the sun can quickly burn your skin. Bring along sun protection gear including a hat, sunglasses and at least SPF 30+ sun cream readily available at all pharmacies.

All major cities in Tasmania have medical facilities where you can receive same day medical treatment. Be sure to bring along your medical necessities including contact lens/eyeglasses, prescription medications, doctor’s certificates and a basic first aid kit to avoid an unnecessary trip to the medical clinic or pharmacy.

Day Pack

With all the bushwalking opportunities, day trips and tours available in Tasmania you’ll be spending most of the day exploring the great outdoors. Bring along a small foldable back pack to accommodate a water bottle, warm jumper, mobile phone, torch, pocket-size first aid kit, camera and snacks.

If the need be, you will be able to purchase all your toiletries in Tasmania but why not save the hassle and prepare before you arrive? Use our below check list to make sure you have everything ready and packed in your bag;

  • Deodorant
  • Cosmetics
  • Mini-sewing kit
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Razor/shaving cream
  • Soap
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Sunscreen Lip Balm
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush

Bring along DVDs to watch in the in-built DVD player and load some music onto your iPod or CD for the longer drives. This way you’ll be entertained all holiday long!
